New Law to Provide More Access to Renewable Energy PDF Print Email

The governor signed legislation this week removing obstacles from the state’s Net Energy Metering program. The program enables Californians to generate clean, renewable energy on their property and get financial credit on their energy bill. SB 594 enables a customer with multiple meters to install one renewable energy facility that will serve all meters on the same property or on adjoining property, instead of installing separate facilities at each meter.

Verengo Solar Opens Regional Headquarters in Concord PDF Print Email

Residential solar installation company Verengo Solar advised that it has opened new regional headquarters in Northern California. The office, located in Concord, will host a job fair on October 6 in order to hire local candidates for its neighborhood canvass program and to join its solar sales consulting team. “We’re expanding our presence to make it easier for Northern California homeowners to pay less money for better, cleaner energy,” said Akiko Koh Verengo’s, VP of operations.

Sebastopol May Require Solar Arrays on New Businesses PDF Print Email

The city of Sebastopol, which prides itself on being a small community with a big solar energy footprint, will consider requiring photovoltaic arrays on new commercial construction. If the city adopts Councilman Patrick Slayter’s proposal, it will be among the first in the nation. While there are many incentives to solar development in the form of rebates and credits and many renewable energy goals, there are few absolute mandates.

Solar Companies Look to the Eastern Edge of the Bay Area PDF Print Email

Solar companies hoping to harness the sun’s energy have eyes on flat land just west of Mountain House near the San Joaquin County line. At least four applicants proposed building solar energy facilities—ranging from 14 to 2,000 acres—on prime farmland, prompting members of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors to ask their planners to begin work on a policy to guide development.  County supervisors say the priority should be to save prime farmland and put such solar facilities on land that won’t affect agriculture.

Committee Approves CCA CleanPowerSF over Downtown Opposition PDF Print Email

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors Budget & Finance Committee voted 2-1 in favor of creating CleanPowerSF, a "community choice aggregation" (CCA) renewable energy program that would be offered as an alternative to Pacific Gas & Electric, devoting 19.5 million dollars from the San Francisco Public Utility Commission’s water fund. Supporters argued that the time has come for the city to address climate change and the long-term energy needs of city residents and businesses, while some from the business community said it’s too expensive.
